I have been thinking about going down to MacRitchie Reservoir Tree top walk for quite sometime. Just that don’t really have the time. Anyway last week finally make my down to MacRitchie Reservoir for the tree top walk. I didn’t know that it was close on Monday. Hmmm….. So you folks if going for the tree top walk at MacRitchie Reservoir tree top walk please do not go down on Monday.They usually open from Opening hours of the Walk are Tue to Fri: 9am-5pm, Sat, Sun and Public Holidays: 8.30am-5pm. Closed on Mondays except public holidays for maintenance and research.

If you are driving down, you can park your car at Venus Drive, off Upper Thomson Road car park and it free.The car will close about 6pm or 7pm and if you didn’t manage to come out before this timing you need to come back the next day to collect your car. So, if you are coming for the Tree top walk do come early.

Normally, the distance felt longer when you walk toward the Tree Top walk compare to coming back from it. The total distance from car park to the Tree top walk and back to Venus Walk is about 10km and it took me close to 3 hour for the whole journey. It was tiring and my leg sore but it was a good walk.

The next time i go i will definitely ask some of my friends along for the walk, it won’t be so  bore. And last thing the walk is  not suitable for your children below 5 years old and pets are not allow to enter the Natural park.

You will be surprise to find such a primitive forest in a highly urbanized Singapore. You can find more than one square kilometer (over 100 ha) of primary forest still flourishes in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve today, particularly around MacRitchies.

They are at least 5 walking trails and are indicating by differ colour -

• Route 1 (Green) about 1.5-hour walk Trail grade: Easy
• Route 2 (Purple) about 2-hour walk Trail grade: Easy
• Route 3 (Blue) about 4 to 5-hour walk Trail grade: Moderate to difficult
• Route 4 (Yellow) about 4-hour walk Trail grade: Moderate
• Route 5 (Pink) about 4 to 5-hour walk Trail grade: DifficultNoted: some of the trail might be closed due to landslides

Along the boardwalk at MacRitchie, you can find interesting plants like the intriguing Ant plant and pitcher plants or maybe you can spot some o small animals and birds in the tree along the way.

As I was reading the NPark website and they claim that a chestnut trees can be found right here in the forest. Too bad, I can’t find the tree and maybe next time, I will take a picture of the tree to show you.

You can find a Ranger Station along the route 4 at the cross road about 11km and over there, you can use the toilet if you are urgent and have a sip of water at the water cooler. I suggest you bring along some light snack and a bottle of water with you during the hike. And guys, please do not any how throw your rubbish!

I think the main attraction for the Reservoir is the HSBC treetop walk and it is accessible from MacRitchie Reservoir Park via 1) MacRitchie Nature Trail (indicated as Route 3 on map) or from 2) Venus Drive, off Upper Thomson Road.

The free suspension bridge is connected to the 2 highest points in MacRitchies forest which has a total length of 250m and at the height of 27m above the ground. It is said to be the is the first of its kind in the region. I suggest you walk the bridge, you can see many plants from the top of the bridge and maybe if you are lucky, you can spot small animals that live in the forest. Take note that the treetop walk is not suitable for young children and elderly. The walk from one end to the other takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Therefore, the total time for the walk including the Treetop Walk would be 3 to 5 hours. And if you hungry, I suggest you go to the food court at Adam Road, it has lots of cheap and tasty food for you to try.

By Bus

Take bus nos. 52, 74, 93, 130, 132, 156, 157, 162, 165, 166, 167, 852, 855 or 980. Alight along Lornie Road at the bus-stop in front of MacRitchie Reservoir Park.

By Car

Entrance to the MacRitchie Reservoir Park car park is along Lornie Road.
